Oh my God, a girl I went to high school with was murdered this week.

I didn't know Melanie--I took pictures of her during the dress rehearsal for the final play of my senior year, though, and she seemed so vivacious and fun. But I still feel like crying. I don't know why. Between hearing this and at least three other things today... I feel like crap.

Oh my goodness. It's a completely normal response if you want to cry. Think of all the times you cried for people you didn't know (9/11, the tsunami aftermath in 2004, the VT shootings). My psychologist says it's healthy. I see it as an expression of your humanity. *hug* It's never easy to hear news of that nature. It's a mortality check. You realize how short life really is and that's a scary, humbling thing. Let me know if you need anything.

wow, that's horrible. it's completely normal for wanting to cry because it's much more cathartic to cry than to bottle up those emotions.

That's so terrible. It's really unsettling to hear about something like this happening to anyone, and even if you didn't know her that well you still knew her, so don't feel strange for reacting this way.
I'm sorry to hear your bad news, and I hope you feel better soon. RIP to the poor girl; I hope her spirit finds peace.

What a terrible tragic way to die.
A girl I went to college with was murdered; I didn't know her well, either, but it really affected me. I think that when somebody you know, even peripherally, is murdered, it is a totally different feeling than when they die accidentally.
