One of the worst feelings in the world is re-adding music to your media player of choice after you've wiped it clean. In addition to trying to remember what you had on and liked (as I tend to clean off everything when I'm fed up with trying to go through and individually delete tracks I'm not that fond of), you have to shuffle through playlists, take off singles and add the album versions, and refresh the album art. Hand to God, if ugly fanmix covers don't stop popping up on actual full albums (especially the cover for some Twilight fanmix that for reasons unknown ALWAYS seems to pop up on my copy of Little Voice), I am going to scream.

I am feeling irritated over a bunch of stupid little things right now. Let's list them!

- The change in my coat pocket has somehow fallen into the lining and I DO NOT KNOW HOW OR HOW TO GET IT OUT.
- I can't find my Zune charger so I am having to charge it at my laptop.
- I don't have enough money to buy everyone's Christmas presents right now and I won't have enough to do that until Friday.
- I want to work on the Boarding School Epic of Doom but I have this major case of writer's block for it, even though I know exactly where I want to go with it.
- I don't have time to go stop by the comic store and see if the cute cashier is working.
- My dad's gone out of town to see my granddad and he's not going to be back until Christmas.
- Pepper will not stop eating the trash in the bathroom.
- I am waitlisted for a class I really need to take and if I get into the 6 to 8:50 section it will screw up my work schedule SO MUCH and I REALLY NEED TO TAKE IT EARLIER.
- I can't get storylines I want because I swear sometimes I feel like I'm one of the five people on IJ who doesn't mind writing women and men.

But on the good:
- I have three episodes of Misfits to watch whenever I get some time. I am officially hooked on it, omg.
- I'm doing that "50 Most Attractive" meme that was going around on Tumblr a few months ago and I'm posting it here.
- I finally downloaded LJ Juggler, which is like LJLogin for Chrome and I may finally have to make the switch over to Chrome officially.
- I saw Megamind, Black Swan, and Tron Legacy over the course of two days, which was interesting. Megamind totally surpassed my expectations, Black Swan was amazing and left me feeling ridiculously paranoid, and Tron was a nice way to chill after the intensity of Black Swan--plus, it had Garrett and Olivia (unf).
- I get to do all the Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve which is going to be fun. I am seriously one of those people who loves shopping on Christmas Eve because after years of going with my mom, I know how to navigate.
- Fingers crossed, come the 26th and I will finally have a friggin' Nintendo Wii. I hope that GameStop still has the red one for $199 then.
- DELICIOUS MAY NOT BE GOING AWAY. THANK THE LORD. I have way too many links to random blogs/Photoshop things linked there. I suppose I could use Instapaper but I can't TAG there.
- Easy A is out on DVD tomorrow, hurray!

HEY, GUESS WHO HAS A 32GB ZUNE HD? OH FINALLY, PORTABLE MUSIC, I HAVE MISSED YOU SO.

Notes to self: get extended warranty, check to see when class is tomorrow, renew paid account.

1. Lost = DLKJSGJOEJDLJKGSLGLSLJGLJSGLGJSL!!!!!!!

2. Glee = still need to see. I was howling at the segments that I did see, though.

3. So, there is this guy at work who is vaguely close in age to me and very nice and nice to look at, and after I mentioned to someone in my department that I thought he was kind of cute, she asked him if he had a girlfriend and we found out that no, he doesn't. I'd like to say something but on one hand he could want to hang out and stuff but on the other hand he could just be the kind of person who happens to be attractive and is nice to everyone, you know? CURSE MY ANXIETY.

4. I am angsting over Work Guy a touch because I'm at this point wherein I just really, really want to get certain things over with but I also want the ~feelings~ that come with them because I am not the type to divorce action from feelings--if that makes sense. I want to do important things and have them be meaningful. I'm just tired of not feeling anything, you know? I want to. And I want to experience things as well.

5. Today was a good day, otherwise. I still don't feel bad from the eggs. Hopefully I won't feel terrible tomorrow either. Gah, I just miss having eggs sometimes. The smell of them cooking, though, always makes me fel nauseous. I don't even know why.

6. THREE WEEKS 'TIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER WTF?!?!

7. NO NEW JAMES BOND NEXT YEAR. [cries] [sobs] [rends garments]

8. Meet David Karp, the dude behind Tumblr. Look, I am not a big fan of the whole sideswept bangs thing that has become popular for certain guys in the past few years, but some can pull it off. This guy? Can pull it off. (Swoon.)

Tomorrow and Tuesday are going to be strictly dedicated to my news report for radio. Ugh, I hate the end of the semester. That is when projects start piling up like a bad wreck at rush hour.

I am frustrated because I still have no Zune. I was planning on buying a 32GB one, and the Fry's near me is completely out of them and the next nearest one has them on backorder. Best Buy price matches, but they don't match the least expensive online price and theirs are $269 and that would've left me with no money for two weeks so I still don't have one. I just want to have portable music without having it linked to my phone. Is that too much to ask?

Oh, and random news: I'm changing AIM screen names! So in the even that you want/need to IM me, I can now be found on disarmed charm (which I registered eons ago but finally decided that I needed to put to use).

From the "random things about myself that I've noticed" files: I tend to get really fixated on certain songs and I feel kind of weird about it. For example, right now my most listened to tracks on Last.fm are "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" by Coldplay (AHHH HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE LAST WEEK, COLDPLAY, WHY ARE YOU GROWING ON ME LIKE A FUNGUS) and "Before You Walk Out of My Life" by Monica. Last week it was "Gimme Shelter" (yet another example of a song I've heard my entire life and kind of been like, "Oh, that's cool!" without knowing who it was by). I feel weird about the obsessive listening because it's like I get to a point where I say to myself, "I should be sick of this song by now! Why am I not sick of this song yet?" and I try to listen to something else but I just go back to it again and again.

So that kind of provides a segue into Day 23 (whatever tickles your fancy): a mix, featuring a bunch of R&B from the '90s mostly due to that Monica song. The track listing (in alphabetical order by song, with approximate years of release):
1. A Rose is Still a Rose, Aretha Franklin (1997)
2. Another Sad Love Song, Toni Braxton (1993)
3. Before You Walk Out of My Life, Monica (1994)
4. Don't Let Go, En Vogue (1997)
5. Endless Love, Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey (1993)
6. Fantasy, Mariah Carey (1995)
7. 5 Steps, Dru Hill (1996)
8. For the Cool in You, Babyface (1994)
9. For You I Will, Monica (1996)
10. I Get Lonely, Janet Jackson (1998)
11. I Swear, All-4-One (1993)
12. If I Ever Fall in Love, Shai (1992)
13. Killing Me Softly, The Fugees (1996)
14. Kiss from a Rose, Seal (1995)
15. No Diggity, Blackstreet (1994)
16. No Scrubs, TLC (1999)
17. One in a Million, Aaliyah (1994)
18. One Last Cry, Brian McKnight (1993)
19. Runaway, Janet Jackson (1996)
20. Sittin' Up in My Room, Brandy (1995)
21. The Roof, Mariah Carey (1997)
22. The Sweetest Thing, Lauryn Hill (1997)
23. Whatta Man, Salt N' Pepa and En Vogue (1994)

In random tech news that only I will probably care about: Zune HD is coming out with a 64GB model next week! I've pretty much decided to get the 32GB one but OMG, shiny.

I have wanted to see John Mayer live for years. If I ever got the money, I would pretty much go anywhere to see him in concert.

SO HEY, GUESS WHAT. MY LAPTOP'S MOTHERBOARD DIED. QUELLE HORREUR. So I have no music and no laptop now. This is the suck, pretty much. Oh, and on top of that? I have next to no money either and unless my hours pick up next week, I will still have no money so I won't be able to remedy the entire situation either. I wonder how much money you can get from donating plasma and whether or not it hurts...

Kidding. (But seriously, money or no, if I didn't have a major hate of needles and prodding I would so donate plasma.)

Seriously, I need another way to make money somehow.

Last night, my laptop suddenly shut off twice. It's done it before due to overheating, but that was a long, long time ago. The first time it shut off, I waited for about five minutes before turning it on, because I had been working on something in Word and I kind of needed to save it.

So after I turned it back on, I logged online and was IMing people... and then it shut off again. And it wouldn't come back on.

It still won't come back on. I plugged the adapter in to it like I usually do since my battery life is abysmal, and... nothing. I'm thinking that it's either due to overheating (which means a drive might've asploded, oh noes), which is very possible because my laptop model (a Dell Inspiron 1100) has been prone to overheating (so sayeth Google after some searching last night and today) or maybe the fan is just gunky. Either way, I'm taking it to the computer center on campus tomorrow to see if they could possibly take a look to figure out what's up and if it can be saved.

I'm hoping it might be able to be fixed with minimum drama. Either way, I am so getting a cooling rack... thing when it gets fixed so this won't happen again.

Ugh. What is it with me and electronics?
enamoured: the starry-eyed emoticon: *_* (can't see anyone but you.)
1. Oh yay, it's August! Or not. I don't know. I am totally ambivalent about August.

2. I've been going back and forth over the MP3 player/Zune thing, since I'm pretty sure that Harry is un-fixable. On one hand, I would really like having the 120GB one; on the other, the Zune HD is coming out in a few more months, and it looks so very nifty. I miss having my portable music, but at the same time--fall isn't that far away, so... I don't know.

3. Is it crazy of me to buy two pairs of the same shoe? I ask because my current work shoes are about a year old and I've worn a hole through the lining on the inside and they're not as cushony as they once were. We've got three pairs left in my size and we're probably not going to get any more of that style, so I was thinking I should buy two pairs, since they're so comfy.

4. OH HEY, HAS ANYONE ELSE SEEN THAT EXTENDED PREVIEW FOR THE PRISONER?! I watched it last weekend and now I'm all "!!!!" about it. It has Gandalf and Jesus on an island! Come on, how is that not awesome?!
enamoured: the starry-eyed emoticon: *_* (senses working overtime)
Last night, as I was getting up to get ready for bed, one of my feet got tangled in the power cord for my laptop, and I ended up pulling the laptop down and disconnecting my portable hard drive.

That's not the bad part. The laptop's fine, as is the drive.

The bad part? My Zune was on the stool I'd been sitting on. The laptop hit the screen. Now when I turn it on, I get nothing but black lines. I can still hear music, but the monitor isn't showing jack.

Oh, and it gets better. How? A.) I bought it a year ago as of last month but I lost my receipt, so B.) it's out of its original warranty and C.) I STUPIDLY did not buy the extended warranty offered by Office Max and D.) even if I had, I don't know if they would have covered the damage because E.) Harry (the Zune) is a 30GB first generation model and F.) they don't make those anymore.

F. My. Life.

I am one of those people who loathes Twitter, but since I've been following the news about the protests after Iran's elections, and seeing how people there have been utilizing Twitter to get the word out... I'm kind of in awe. There was one quote that I read somewhere that said something like, "140 characters is a novel when you're being shot at", and damn.

And randomly: I want a phone like this.

About an hour ago there were a few articles on Google News about the meltdown. Now there's a ton of 'em.

30GB Zune apocalypse arrives as devices enter digital coma (Updated)
Around midnight Pacific time last night, 30GB Zunes began restarting and locking up at their boot screens. Reports have swamped official forums and fan sites, and Microsoft has yet to officially comment on the reason for this pre-New-Year's Zune apocalypse.

As reported by hundreds of owners in forum threads at Zune.net and other sites, one of which already has over 1,000 replies, the 30GB model of Microsoft's Zune digital media player—and apparently only the 30GB model—entered a coma last night. Whether a Zune was sitting idle or was in the middle of playing a song, users report that the device either shut itself off or restarted and then locked up at its boot screen.

"i was on the computer my zune was hooked up charging all of the sudden it reset it self and froze on the zune loading logo screen !!!" said ISUZU RODEO on the Zune.net forums. "Same thing just happened to me!" replied momogirl. "Except mine wasn't hooked up to the computer, I was playing music and all of sudden the music stopped and it shut off. I turned the Zune back on and it loaded to 100% but then froze and none of the reset combinations are working."

The thread they are referencing is the one that made me realize that what happened with mine wasn't an isolated incident. But then that article gets really interesting:
Some accounts claim that this does not happen on 30GB Zunes that run firmware previous to the 3.1 release in November, but one such Zune with 3.0 firmware in the Ars Orbiting HQ has locked up like the rest. Another staff member with an 80GB Zune, however, is still rocking out to the social, and a third staffer has no problems with either 120GB or 8GB models.

Hrrrrrrm. Gizmodo talks about it here.

Arrrrrrgh. LIKE 2008 HASN'T SUCKED ENOUGH, ONE LAST THING HAS TO SNEAK IN TO BE FURTHER SUCKTACULAR.
enamoured: the starry-eyed emoticon: *_* (oh em gee yayz!)
I can't stop playing Hexic on my Zune--which I got after I updated the firmware. I need a Marketplace card, man. I love this thing.
enamoured: the starry-eyed emoticon: *_* (dirrty boys do it better)
Oh my God, why can't I have an MP3 player that actually decides to HOLD ALL THE MUSIC AND MEDIA THAT IT IS TRULY CAPABLE OF HOLDING?! For some reason, Harry Lockhart is not allowing me to add more music. This is the exact same problem I had with my Zen. Same problem, different brands. I am almost willing to bet cash money that if I bought an iPod, the same thing would happen. God. I didn't have this problem with the first MP3 player I owned, and that was a little bitty flash player that I could only have 100 songs on, if I added a memory card.

In case you don't know: Judy Blume is awesome. I haven't read very many of her YA books, but when I was about seven I read and reread Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing over and over. When ABC had the TV show Fudge, I totally watched that too. Judy Blume, along with Ann M. Martin (and her ghostwriters) probably made me want to be a writer.

I'm reading this thread in the TV Tropes forums about ultimate crossovers, and it made me think of the most random crossover idea: Mike Rowe doing Dirty Jobs from fictional 'verses. Come on, Mike with the Winchesters, demon-hunting! Mike running from the smoke monster! Mike attempting to break out of prison with Michael and Lincoln (again)! Mike in the TARDIS! I think everything might be a little bit better with Mike Rowe.

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] vwlphb, [livejournal.com profile] mouseykins1, and [livejournal.com profile] waderapspoorly for help with that thing last night. IT WORKED, YAY!

Puppy. With barrettes. That kind of cute is just wrong, y'all. Wrong.

Random things: last night I downloaded Opera--just to see what it looked like. It's okay, but I'm still more of a Firefox fan. Also, for some weird reason, I cannot get Firefox or Internet Explorer to work on our desktop, yet the AT&T browser works fine. The weirdest part? My account is the only one having problems with this. I think this is a conspiracy.

I bought new sheets today at Target. They were only $14; how could I resist? And Target has really great sheets and blankets in their kids' department. My winter sheets are purple flannel with clouds, and they came from the kids' collection. Which reminds me: I need a new comforter. My mom bought me this great lilac colored satin one that got mangled by the dry cleaners, and I need a new one.

...yeah, I know it's summer and therefore not comforter weather. But I feel weirdly upset about not having one on my bed right now.

I also rented Definitely Maybe, which was v. cute. I also somehow managed to get it rented for free, which is odd, 'cause Blockbuster doesn't usually do free rentals for new releases. Whatever. Can you guys reccomend any good movies for me to check out next? I have been wanting to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for the longest.

In lieu of the semi-disastrous findings of Monday, I neglected to mention something awesome:

I BOUGHT A ZUNE.

I'd been wanting a new MP3 player since my Zen went 404. I bought a 2GB Zen V when Fry's had them marked down to $27 about three weeks ago, and it was okay, but mostly, the amount of space was what was getting me. I have an insane music library, and even though at any given time I never have every single thing on my player of choice at the time (because hi, there are some albums/songs I am too embarassed to have seen on the display of my player, and as much as I love Christmas songs, I don't want to hear any right now), I like knowing that I have lots of space there.

Office Max was selling the 30GB models for $149.99--I think they were just getting rid of the first gen ones, hence the sale. The two stores closest to me didn't have any left, so I got lost at least twice before I got to the store and finally bought mine.

So far, it's pretty good! I like the quick list option under playlists, and I like that the radio is pretty good. I miss the voice recorder that the Creative players have, but other than that, not bad. My only thing is that I keep on waffling on naming the thing. It is currently Carolina Blue.

I bring you cool stuff.

First: so there's this new book out called Little Brother. The author, Cory Doctorow, is one of the people behind BoingBoing, and from what parts I've read of the book (during an afternoon at Borders, and I probably managed to get through the first four chapters in about an hour and a half), it is amazing. The good news is this: if you don't have $18 to pay for the book (in hardcover), and you can't find it at a library or don't want to particularly wait for it to come in or to come out in paperback, never fear, for you can download it. Legally.

Second: a scale model of Scrooge's money vault from Duck Tales. I remember seeing the Duck Tales movie at a theater, guys. That was... a while ago. (And randomly, while I'm mentioning theaters, I found out that the drive-in I went to with my dad, brother, and cousins is closed! Sad face.)

Third: How History’s Most Popular Board Game Helped Defend The Free World. To semi-summarize: it's like The Great Escape, but with Monopoly.

Fourth: did you know that MP3 players are ten years old? That's kind of a time line of digital music players, and it's really neat.

Fifth: here, have a meme-type thing.

Comment on this post and I will choose seven interests from your profile. You will then explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

A Runaways movie could be in production soon! I... don't know how I feel about that. Because on one hand, it could be brilliant, and on the other, they could get Zac Efron to play Chase and I would have to go and shank somebody. (However, I kind of agree with whoever said that Corbin Bleu would be good as Alex. He has the hair.)

I am randomly sad that New Amsterdam got canned. Woe.

Oh, this is NEAT. "Benjamin Heckendorn modifies pre-existing gaming systems into new concepts such as a laptop version of a PlayStation 3 or the NEStari (pictured) -- a handheld hybrid of an Atari 2600 and the original Nintendo."

I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull yesterday. Across the isle from me, there was a guy and his son, and apparently he'd watched all the other movies with the kid because whenever Marion came on (I am not cutting that because everyone knows Marion Ravenwood is in this one, okay?), the kid was all, "That's the lady from Raiders of the Lost Ark!", which I thought was kind of cute.
