For every day that I loathe my job, there are days when I genuinely like it. Example: today Lindsey, one of my fellow shoe people, came up to me and grumbled about some guys who were trying to steal some shoes and our failed attempt at getting the people in the dressing room to check their feet as they left. One of the customers near us happened to overhear this conversation--a guy who had two kids he was getting shoes for. After hearing us gripe about thieving customers, he proceeded to wrap his hands around his mouth and bellow out "PEOPLE! PUT THE SHOES BACK WHERE YOU FOUND THEM!" We laughed for a couple minutes after that, because it was funny, true, and oddly appropriate.
I also found out today that one of my former coworkers (the guy who I saw pictures of at a Halloween party wearing a thong) is responsible for something that happened, and my mind is just BLOWN in a massive way. Even one of the newer guys knew, and I was all, "WHY DOES NO ONE TELL ME THESE THINGS?!"
OH, AND BY THE WAY:
BACK ON SCHEDULE. I used a down and dirty trick to get there, though: I had my main characters play an alphabetical band name game. IT HELPED, THOUGH. Now I need to start wrapping it up, because I want this crazy novel to be done by month's end. Stuff just keeps happening out of nowhere. I had a semi-clear plan about the way I wanted things to go, and I'll be writing when all of a sudden some voice in the back of my mind goes, "Hey, how 'bout you have X do this to Y?" and it makes it way in. This has never happened before.
