I don't know if I've ever mentioned this, but John Green is one of my favorite authors.

About... two years ago, Looking for Alaska (his first novel) won the Michael L. Printz Award, and An Abundance of Katherines was a Printz Honor winner. Looking for Alaska is one of those books that wrecks you in the best possible way (it's up there with The Book Thief with Books That Made Me Cry), and An Abundance of Katherines is funny and sweet at the same time. I can't wait for his next book, Paper Towns, and he's going to be... somewhere near me in November doing a signing and I really want to go.

But that's not completely why I am making this update.

There's a site called YA for Obama, which features YA authors posting about why they are voting for Obama. John Green contributed this essay. I think he says it better than I probably ever will and ever could.

Also, Scott Westerfeld wins for talking about President God.

Wow, I like that site a lot. Thanks for the link. I feel the same way about Judy Blume's essay as you wrote that you do about Green's.

I want to grow up and be like Judy Blume. I've been a fan of hers since I read the Fudge books when I was a kid, and it's like the more I find out about her, the more I get convinced that she is awesomeness personified.

Thanks for the links. There's a lot of interesting reads there.

I'm registered unaffiliated since I hold a lot of moderate views, but I'm pro-Obama. Unfortunately, my parents just put up a McCain-Palin sign in our yard this week. I can't even mention the possibility of Obama being an excellent choice without my dad saying that if I don't vote McCain, I might as well move out. I sincerely hope he's joking.

And as you probably know, North Carolina hasn't voted blue in 30 years.

There is a blog (fivethirtyeight, I think) that compiles the findings of all the current polls and shows what the electoral map would look like according to those polls, and I keep seeing North Carolina either light pink or white a lot lately. It gives me hope--like, I know there is no way in hell Texas could swing in Obama's favor, but NC possibly doing so makes me feel happy.

Do you mind suggesting anymore of your favorite YA books? Possibly some funny/romantic ones? I've been out of the YA loop for a couple years and I'd like to get reading again!

Here's five that I liked a lot:

Honey Baby Sweetheart by Deb Caletti
Fly on the Wall by E. Lockhart (well, all of her books, really)
Enthusiasm, Polly Shulman
Audios to My Old Life by Caridad Ferrer
A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb
