I had a nice Thanksgiving, how 'bout you?
Today I chauffered my dad around. We paid bills and went to Wal-Mart. I got Mr. Bubble pajama bottoms and another thermal shirt, and also the People Sexiest Men Alive issue. Mmm. Eye candy. Mmm.
I have to watch The Dead Poets' Society if it comes on tomorrow. It's such a great movie. I saw it for the first time when I was a sophomore, after we finished reading A Separate Peace. (a book that quite a few people apparently seemed to hate--I liked it lots, except for the last chapter, which provided no closure at all) I can't help but think that Mona Lisa Smile will be a female, collegiate version of DPS, but hey, Julia Stiles is in it, and I will go see 'most anything with her in it. (Random Julia Stiles fact: she auditioned for the role of Mary Jane in Spider-Man, but she said she "half-assed" her way in the audition. I so would've preferred her in the movie, as I have this weird dislike for Kirsten Dunst.)
But yes. I like Dead Poets' Society. (even if I manage to put the apostrophe in the wrong place.)
I will never watch Degrassi 'round my brother again, because he interrupts my viewing by throwing in snide remarks. He would not shut up about Marco, and he kept calling him "nasty-ass" and such. (he also disrupted my Jimmy Neutron viewage yesterday by saying that the principal "[had] sugar in his tank" every five minutes.) And he also called Emma "ugly" every five minutes. My family never understands my various loves.
Anyway, the actual ep: I like the idea of Emma/Chris. But Chris has a girlfriend, as was slightly learned in the previous episode The N showed. ("Should I Stay or Should I Go"--I like that song...) At the rave, I think that Manny was attempting to make Emma versed in the Manny Santos Way of Snagging a Guy With a Girlfriend: totally disregard the other person and be shiesty. Seriously, Manny used to be so innocuous! She's so fiesty and devious now. GRR.
Did Emma do the right thing? I think so. Heck, if I ever discovered that you-know-who had a girlfriend and we were in a position and he was getting ready to kiss me... I'd refuse. It might be the whole fact that I'm able to think that if I had a boyfriend, I wouldn't want some strange girl kissing him. Or it could be that I don't want to come off as a homewrecker. (ha.) Good move, Emma.
I think Manny needs a good smackdown now. One (or two) for the whole Craig thing, and another one for taking Craig to Emma's room and making out with him. I swear, if I was Emma, I'd be ready to whup some booty if my so-called best friend was making out with a guy on MY bed. Hello!
The Spinner/Marco subplot was pretty good. I still don't like Spinner. Even though it seems he's over everything. He's always managed to rub me the wrong way. But the little fake bravado and "You have bad taste" thing at the end was slightly funny.
This leads to the confrontation between Emma and Manny at the end. This is where my review/whavever gets weird. Because when Manny called Emma a "prissy prude princess" or whatever... I swear, it was like something I'd heard from my "best friend" before. It stung. At that moment, I really felt for Emma. I can empathize with her character--it hurts/sucks when your best friend does this 180 on you and then begins to think there's something wrong with YOU because of what you believe, you know? So when the ep ended I felt kind of sad.
I haven't posted that long of an entry in awhile. Anyway, I think that later I'm going to watch Moulin Rouge and feel sad.
