'Ello all. I just got back from the movies--I saw Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Go me!

I was in the line, and a few people ahead of me were these two guys. High school aged, because they were asking about how much the student tickets cost. So I'm waiting to get my ticket, and one of the guys says, "What movie are we seeing again?", and his friend half-shouts, "DIRTY DANCING!" No shame, those boys. No shame! It was really funny to me.

So, the movie. Well, you can't go in with any expectations if you've seen the original. It's going backwards, not forwards, and the company is promoting it as a "companion" movie to the original. Never mind that Havana Nights had a WAYY bigger budget than the original. You have to think, "It's totally different." And you hope to God that they're not having Patrick Swayze play a younger version of himself, sixteen years LATER. I went in with this attitude, and I actually liked it.

But I had my little nitpicks. Okay, there are so scenes that kind of take their influence from the original. The dancing in the water scene, the discovering the "forbidden" dancing, the male hired help, the rich girl with the disapproving parental units...! Oh great! But I eat this junk up. You know me: pop culture nerd extrodinnaire. Oh yes, and Patrick Swayze's cameo: he IS a dance instructor. But they didn't give him a name. In the credits, he's listed as "Dance Instructor". So, no worries, DD purists: Johnny Castle is (slightly) nowhere to seen.

How ironic that on Best Week Ever on VH1, they talked about the movie, and one guy starts listing suggestions for the next DD movie: "Dirty Dancing: Southside LA!" Then this other guy says "Nobody puts Baby in a corner, damn it!" in Spanish. You have to watch it to get the humor.

One last note about the movie: they used a more Latin-fused version of the big theme from the original. Yay.

Antonio commented in my Xanga and said he has a friend who wants to be my prom date. Hmmm... (ohpleaselorddontletitbeshawn)

This is the longest entry I've done in awhile. Dude, I need to get out more. Then I chatter more.

Oh yeah. Guess what? On the 29th, I will have officially been in Texas for four years. Oh joy.
