Jan. 19th, 2006 09:27 pmAfter seeing this a squillion other friending memes, I'm thinking of starting one of my own. Uh. Yeah.
This was kind of a big meme-type thing that went around about a month ago, but I'm late to join things sometimes, so here we go.
Ten Things I Assume Everyone Knows About Me*
1. I was born and spent more than half of my life so far in North Carolina. I refuse to see myself as a Texan because A.) I was not born here and B.) I dislike it here so much. Plus, I just know more about the Old North State--from minor details like the state flower (dogwood) and about the barbeque. Stuff that I don't know about Texas. So there. I am a North Carolinian, dammit.
2. I went to Catholic school for eight years. Sometimes I blame some of my eccentricities on that. Because of those eight years, I memorized the Seven Deadly Sins, know that different denominations do communion differently (I still remember being five and being shocked that they did communion at Mass, as in my AMEZ church, we only get communion once a month, on the first Sunday), and the procedure done for picking a new Pope. I also learned the Hail Mary, what a prostitute and a slut were (when I was in sixth grade; I was a sheltered sheltered child), and other things.
3. I am a book nerd. I've been reading since I was two, and I cannot fathom not being able to read.
4. I am a pop culture geek. When did this start? I think it came into full effect when I was in my Backstreet Boys/*NSYNC super obession stage, when I clipped every article I could find about them out of whatever form of media. I was the one who all of my simularly obsessed friends could consult, because I watched all the awards shows and stuff. In seventh grade, I would buy a magazine practically once a week and bring them to lunch and recess with my friends. So my adoration of boy bands spread into a general squealy love for music, movies, and TV shows that I cannot shake.
5. I am slightly happy with myself, but at the same time, I often feel inadequate for going to a community college, for not taking honors classes when I was in high school, for not being successful yet, for not having a boyfriend, and for not being good-looking enough.
6. I may not have perfect grammar, but nothing grates me more than godawful grammar.
7. I am a bit of a feminist. I've come to realize this more lately. Nothing pisses me off more than when girls are snippy and petty to each other, and call each other skanks and so on just because they dislike each other. If you dislike someone, can't you come up with a more rational way of expressing your dislike? Can't you specify the reason why someone annoys you other than calling them a "ho" (as in, not "hoe", which is, for the thousandth time a gardening tool)?
8. I am completely nostalgic for the '90s. I think I've been missing that decade since 2001. Maybe I'm overly sentimental, but it seems like things then were easier--not just because I was younger, but overall. I know it's not true, but I think that sometimes.
9. Things I am slightly obsessed with: dreams and analyzing them, Lost, Danny Phantom, making lists, attractive male celebrities, Snoopy and all things Peanuts, music, writing, Barnes and Noble, Wal-Mart, and making mix CDs.
10. I have never been kissed or had any kind of romantic relationship ever. I have gotten close to being kissed--back when I was twelve. But I turned it down and on occasion I wonder if I was stupid for doing so. And then I wonder why, and I overanalyze every situation and constantly find myself going back to things I did when I was younger and saying that it's exactly why I am the way I am now.
*--well, okay, not EVERYONE, but some people. Uh, yeah.
So The Brother got a job. Let's add this to the wall of Things He Has Done Before Me, along with "seriously dated someone" and "got training wheels off bike". What is wrong with me? Why am I socially stunted?

Date: 2006-01-21 04:31 am (UTC)I am also a slight (or not so slight) book nerd. It would have been better if my parents had encouraged me to read more at an earlier age but I got there eventually.
How did you learn to read when you were 2?
