So everyone's saying that this year it's going to be all about the guys and it'll be the year that a guy wins again, but whatever. And all the online bet people say it's going to be down to Ace and Katharine, which I'll address later.
Re: the girls last night. I really liked (in order) Katharine, Mandisa, Paris, and Kinnik.
Re: the guys tonight. I love Will. He is so adorable (and young, but very adorable). Elliot was okay--I liked that he did "If You Really Love Me", as it is one of the few Stevie Wonder songs that has not been beaten to death on AI. Best male singer ever on Idol? I dun think so. I missed Taylor, who has a cult following (in a non-mad way--people are, at least, very amused by him and I've seen scads of LJ icons of him, seriously). Gedeon had me wanting to dance (and I can't dance) with "Shout".
So, this brings me to a few other things:
1. Ace? Is not good. At all. He's kind of good-looking, but that's it. His voice is just blah.
2. Kellie Pickler (I keep wanting to call her Pickles, except that's my semi-nickname and I don't like sharing) bugs. Seriously. I'm sorry about her dad and all, but she is seemingly milking her sob story for all it's worth. And she's a blah singer as well. People keep comparing her to Carrie Underwood, but Carrie seems more interesting than Pickler. And the worst part? She is practically wearing a neon sign on her forehead that says "WILL BE IN FINAL TWELVE".
3. Lisa Tucker bugs me too for some reason. She's technically good, but she seems too... I don't know, staged for me. She'd been on Star Search but she seems like one of those precoicious pageant girls.
4. If Ace makes it to the final six, I'll expect it. He makes it to the final three/two? It will be five kinds of wrong.
And finally, because I feel like pressing my luck, my predictions of the final six: Katharine, Ace, Kellie, Taylor, Chris, and Mandisa.
I am not the only person who does this (I know because I've asked), but I have to ask if anyone else on my f-list (or on LJ) has done this. The "picking the songs you'd sing if on Idol" game. I've gone over it a couple thousand times in my head and I almost have a list. Except when it comes to theme nights, I always think in terms of the themes circa seasons 1 and 2. But I digress. I'd audition with "For the Love of You" by the Isley Brothers (or "Trust in Me" by Etta James), and as far as semifinals songs (if I made it that far) I'd do "Sir Duke" at one point or another (because that song just rules). And I'd hope for a Big Band Night, so I'd have an excuse to sing "I Only Have Eyes For You". And at some point, I'd want to do "Kissing a Fool" by George Michael, just because.
