Okay, question. Does anyone know what the hell "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" is about? Because I cannot figure it out and it makes my head hurt. They play that song a lot at my job lately.
Speaking of music that is played at the job: if I hear "You're Beautiful" or "Bad Day" one more time I am going to Lose It and start throwing boxes at people or actually causing bodily harm to all the little kids who go through the isles pushing the shoeboxes back. And I will get fired, just because I hear James Blunt and Daniel Powter too much.
They go through cycles of playing music at work. For some reason, on the weekends sometimes they play modern country, and it always makes me feel bummed for some reason. The rest of the time they play Top 40 from the '80s through now. The coolest thing was when they played Motown and old-school R&B one weekend last month, and I was in the Best Mood Ever.
Before I talk about music more, let me just note that on like, Saturday, I went in and there was a Boy Scout (Eagle Scout, I think; he was a teenager) in the department wearing a kilt. It made my night for some reason.
Back to music.
So I kind of am in love with Magnet's cover of "Lay Lady Lay" that's on the soundtrack to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It's extremely lush and sexy. I've never heard the Dylan version (I'm not that fond of Bob Dylan's voice, but I like his songs, does that make sense?), but this one, ugh. Also on the Mr. and Mrs. Smith soundtrack is 8mm's cover of Carly Simon's "Nobody Does it Better". I adore the original, and I adore the cover, but I think lately the cover's more of my favorite. And in possibly one of my potentially sacreligious confessions ever, I'll say that I prefer James Taylor's version of "How Sweet it Is (To Be Loved By You)" to Marvin Gaye's original.
All of my babble about covers reminds me that I have a playlist of cover songs versus the original ones. Right now, I'm wishing for Donny Hathaway's version of "A Song For You", as I only have a version by Whitney Houston and the one that Elliott from AI sang.
Prison Break finale tonight! I had a dream about Prison Break that involved me being in Fox River and in on the escape plan. Uh. No.

Date: 2006-05-15 10:16 pm (UTC)And I totally understand that music thing. I keep hearing those two songs everywhere. Just yesterday, I was at this pottery coloring place with my friend and Bad Day came on. I almost chucked my mug at the speaker on the wall.

Date: 2006-05-16 12:06 am (UTC)And I get what you mean about Bob Dylan's voice and his songs. Seems like you may feel the way my mom does about his stuff -- she says she thinks he's a good songwriter (and probably writer in general), but that she's never liked his voice.

Date: 2006-05-16 01:26 am (UTC)AH, oh my God. I am so, so sick of those both, and it is made ten times worse that I heard those in Hungary last summer (Like, OMG I liked them before they were popular!!!1111) so I've already done the whole play-them-constantly thing on my OWN, and now I have to deal with it a second time, and I'm so tired of them that they make me write long, confusing, run-on sentences.
In other words, word.
