Nov. 19th, 2006 01:58 pmIt's the most wonderful time of the year...! Eh.
I am going to be working Black Friday. Here's to hoping it doesn't take away the fact that I love this time of year.
Kind of short notice, but the Get a Webpage scholarship is kind of awesome. $1500 plus a year of free domain hosting? COOLNESS.
And, that Holiday Wish List:
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.
And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. Mix CDs. Or, you know, zip files with favorite songs so that I can later burn them to CD or put them on my MP3 player? I love sharing with people songs that I love and think they could grow to love, and it's cool to do that with someone else.
2. A scarf knitted just for me. I have a navy blue/golden yellow rugby shirt that I got last Christmas, and I think it'd be awesome to have a scarf to match it.
3. Gift certificates to Amazon. Okay, yeah--I have a wishlist at Amazon.com, but pimping it out to other people makes me feel a little bit uneasy.
4. DVDs! Both of the POTC movies, Lost S2, Everybody Hates Chris S1, Doctor Who S1... I think that's about it.
5. Sweater vests. I like them. HUSH.
6. The PostSecret books.
7. To have my handwriting turned into a font. I know that Fontifier does that for a fee, and Fonts For Peas does it for free, but they're probably backlogged until 2009 or so.
8. Anything to help me pay for textbooks. I friggin' hate textbooks.
9. Runaways issues 18 through the present one. MY COMIC.
10. Snoopy stuff. Anything with Snoopy = good.
I would've put "actually have a date with a guy and kiss a guy", but that's not exactly the most reasonable gift, eh?
In other news: the kitchen smells like cole slaw. Oh, gross.

Date: 2006-11-19 10:01 pm (UTC)Aack, good luck.
That’s a cool scholarship.
Ooh, Holiday Wish list. Hmm…if I did a drawing of either one of the Runaways kids or of Snoopy I could post it or email it to you. It might take some time, but…would that be okay? Or, if time wags its finger at me, I could make icons of them instead.
The bloopers on the Lost S2 set are so funny…especially the slashy ones. =)
Eww, coleslaw…

Date: 2006-11-20 09:36 am (UTC)Ew! I have to work that day too. I really hope it doesn't suck.
I would totally make you a scarf but I'm super slow at knitting/crocheting so it would take till next year.
With that thought, you haven't changed your address from last year have you because I'm hopin' for an awesome Christmas Card Exchange from and to you, Candicccccce. You see all those C's? Very menacing. So that means you must feel the wrath of my Christmas Spirit.
