There are many things that annoy me about my job, but I've rarely ever mentioned one of the things that has, lately, started to irritate the hell out of me: customers who hit on me.

The first customer that I helped today offered to take me out to lunch if I helped him. Insert me laughing nervously. Then he asked me how old I am. I am always really damn bad when this happens--I lie about so many other things, but I am nearly incapable of lying about my age; I don't know why. And as he was leaving, he asked me if I thought he was attractive, and he asked me if I had a boyfriend. I just. I don't know what to do when this happens. It's different from drive-by hit-ons that occur at Wal-Mart, but I don't know how to react. Kicking him wouldn't have been appropriate. What should I do if this happens again?

All of my Christmas shopping's done, except now I'm broke. Sad face!

Customers that hit on you are always pretty creepy. I would say to play along but then they may take it the wrong way and be like "Hey, 'sup!?" and no one wants that.

That is creepy, especially since you have no way of escape. I tend to get hit on by cashiers. Which is odd, but then I get to leave right away.

Say you have a boyfriend, and possibly 3 or 4 kids :)

What I end up doing (if the advances are unwelcome) is I avoid eye contact entirely and if there's a coworker nearby, I grab them and either include them in the interaction or pawn the customer off on them entirely. "Well, I don't know much about that kind of book, but Jordan here reads them all the time! He'll be able to help you out much better than I could." And then I slip away. Or "Oh, my girlfriend loved that book!" That sometimes works. Though not as often as one would think.

What I used to do (keep in mind that I started working at the restaurant when I was 17 and on until a few months after my 18th birthday) when someone would hit on me would just kinda casually mention that I had just celebrated my 16th birthday or that I had to go home and feed my baby. Turned 'em right off.

Of course, if they just ignored it? I'd go and talk to my manager and he'd take care of it. xD. I'm like you, though. I usually can't lie about my age so. More often than not, I had an imaginary baby. >.>

ALSO. I have a new name on GJ and you should add it: Breadknife

I'm thinking of moving there, since I have all my character journals there and yeah. It'd be one less website to load xD

Just tell them you appreciate the compliments, but you don't find it appropriate and would like them to stop, however, not without a final thank you.
