I am writing my Personal Statement (read: essay for college entrance) about participating in NaNoWriMo, and how it has made me a better person (seriously). And I'm thinking of doing an informal NaNo soon. I've got a kind of working title: The Fangirl's Guide to Life. The idea is that we have a youngish girl (the Fangirl of the title) who is heavily involved in a certain fandom and she goes to a convention and runs into a guy who is also into the fandom and sparks fly. It's like chick-lit, in a way.

So if I want to do this, I basically need to create a fandom. But it has to be the Best Little Fandom Ever, and I can't think of anything on my own that sounds good. This is where everyone else comes in. By participating in this poll, you will help to Create the Perfect Fandom.

[Poll #929200]

Yes, I am insane for posting this during the middle of the night. I should, at least, be working on my essay.

Uh. I am filling out this poll while intoxicated. If any of my answers don't make sense, I blame it on the alcohol.

Ooh, that sounds like the manga Dramacon. A lot better than most American-made manga. I read the first volume and liked it very much, the soap opera balanced by the sweet and geeky.

Now, I'm off to the poll!

This comment has no point other than to inform you that I would really like to be a part of a fandom that has both cheerleaders, spies, renegade heroes, and also qualifies as a comedy, sci-fi, drama, coming-of-age, and musical. Dude. How awesome.

ZOMG just thought of a point.

Plagues Teh Perfect Fandom: obsessive snobby fans who correct everything you say. NO, HIS LAST NAME WAS JOHNSTONE, NOT JOHNSTON, AND HIS MOTHER'S NAME WAS LISA, AND HE GUEST STARRED IN TWO EPISODES, NOT THREE, AND HE HAD A FRENCH-CANADIAN ACCENT, NOT A FRENCH ONE, BLAH BLAH BLAH...

fans complaining about canon. WE WILL PRETEND THAT SUCH-AND-SUCH NEVER HAPPENED!

To me, this is The Big Number ONE. I may occasionally be very displeased with canon, but even I know better than to complain about it unceasingly. I mean, I have met people in some fandoms who, hand to god, seem to honestly think if they bitch enough the writers or whatever will go "yeah, oops, our bad" and go back AND CHANGE THINGS. AUUUUUUUGH!!!!

Hello, I came over from fanficrants, and I ticked the "I got worse." box. Here's the worse, from my own darling Ecco the Dolphin fandom. It's sort of warring Big Name Fans to the next level:

A Big Name Fan, owner of one of the few larger fansites in a small fandom, wants to be The Best And Most Important Fan Ever to the point that after he shuts down his own fansite to move on to other interests, he attacks other parts of the community with trolling and simple forum hacks.

Oh, it's Ecco. I kept reading it as Ecce, which confused me. (Ecce = Look! in Latin)

Also, worded.

I think anime/manga should be added as a medium... or do they count as books/television show?

Also, the character that we most definitely need for any fandom is the ambivalent antihero. (Sasuke and Zuko, anyone?)

Doh.

I missed the 'other' option on 'what would plague the fandom'.

I'll say it here anyhow. Really, really, really badly written lemon fics, complete with horrific rape and torture scenes.

Or does that count as 'bad fanfiction'?

Pirates are more popular than ninjas? Both are more popular than vampires?! The horror!

Was there a 'cosmic and morally ambiguous battle between good and evil' in there? There should be. :D

I also cannot believe maids were not popular. Have you *ever* seen a gothic lolita maid outfit? Seriously hot.

The Conflicted Character needs more love. (Is he good? Is he evil? Do I wanna get in his/her pants? Yes.)
