For some reason I started to think about this at work.

Let's say that one day, out of the blue, someone approaches you with a very large, very thick book. The person with the book says that inside of its pages are the answers to some of the greatest questions of all time--like where Atlantis was, what happened to Amelia Earhart, whether or not there really was a second shooter on the grassy knoll, and so on. You are allowed to find out the answer to one of the great unsolved mysteries. What do you ask?

Ack! I think it's a tie between:

What's the deal with the Bermuda Triangle?!

and

Are all those monsters (like bigfoot) and aliens real!?

:3

Gosh, I've thought about this before and its so hard. I might ask which side fired the first shot of the American Revolution... I had 8 ancestors fight at that battle, so I'd ask the name and the side so if it was one of them I would know.

There's a few others I've come up with too- like was there more to the Fatima prophecies than what was actually revealed, what really happened to the Lindburgh baby, or what the ending to Charles Dickens' "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" was gonna be, but I think I'd go with the Revolution.

I love that song!

Anyway. I don't think I could choose just one question, but if you asked me when I was a kid, it would definitely be about the Loch Ness Monster. I was obsessed with that thing in elementary school. I wanted to go to Scotland and find it.

I would ask what I should believe, as far as the existence of God and the afterlife and all that mess. What is truth. Very relaxed but Christian upbringing + psycho fundie Christian school + atheist friends + being too smart for your own good anyway = much brainhurting and woe-is-me-ing about such things.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

(Also: who wrote that stupid theme song to the tanning salon here in town that always gets stuck in my head, and what would be the punishment if I bludgeoned him to death with my radio?)

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I always figured the chicken, and I'd like a definite answer someday.

I'd probably ask about Stonehenge, and what exactly the real deal with that is.

Oh, god. I don't even know, man. Damn... Um. I have no idea, dude. There's just too many to pick one. I'd just have to pass up on the opportunity, I think, because I can't have just one answer to one question.
