This damn post is pretty much a musical/pop cultural snapshot of my life ten years ago, oh Lawd.

Note: I love how insanely dirty some of those songs were, and I had no idea. But I think my favorite "song that had innuendo that went over my head at the time" story is this one: during my first school dance, they played "Crash Into Me", and a few years ago I was listening to it and I was like, WHOA WAIT, WHAT? At that dance, our DJ was an eighth grader who was assisted by one of the priests, and, well, how in the world did they let them play a song that has lyrics like "Hike up your skirt a little more and show your world to me"? So now when I hear that, I'm torn between warm fuzzy nostalgic feelings (first slow dance with a boy I liked, yay!) and bow-chicka-wow-wow.

How sad that I have the CD single for "Get Over Yourself" and actually liked the song. I also watched Popstars. Woe. lol

And dude, you know that whole Kids Bop cd thing that's out? Yeah they have songs like "When I Grow Up" and "I Kissed A Girl" on it.

It's okay, I did the same exact thing. Popstars and the original Making the Band were my shows, ahahaha.

Did you see me all over that post last night (instead of working on my US History paper?)

Ha. See, normally I never see the innuendo in songs, but "Crash Into Me" was one I definitely understood. It's such a dirty song, but Dave sings it so mellow and smooth.

Geez, compared to the shit I was blithely singing/dancing to, "Crash Into Me" isn't bad at ALL. I remember distinctly my mom freaking out because I was singing along to "2 Become 1" by the Spice Girls. She was like "do you know what that MEANS?!" and I was like "yes, of course." (I didn't. Her explanation? "It's about being sexy with a boy. Very sexy." *sigh*) And I knew all the words to "Baby Got Back" and I saw Cruel Intentions at age, like, 12 ("In English? I'll fuck your brains out")...it's a wonder I'm not a major crackwhore.

(My warm-fuzzy-dancing-with-a-boy memory song? "This I Promise You" by *NSYNC. Oh yeah.)

I had to explain what Crash Into Me was really about to my best friend. Talk about embarrassing!
