enamouredI present to you all Wordnik. I am never going to be able to do anything worthwhile now.
You know how sometimes you'll tell someone something about yourself, and you keep kind of repeating it and you lose track of if/when you've told that story before? I feel like that a little sometimes here, but I don't think I've mentioned this one before. So:
I used to get bored and leaf through dictionaries looking for new words. I really used to do it when I had to look up definitions for vocabulary lists that we were given in school. I'd start with the words that were on the list, and then I'd see another one on the same page, and I'd underline it in pencil, or fold down the corner of the page so that I could go back and look at it. And then I'd flip through a few more pages and do the same thing. That only started happening once my mom gave me one of her old college dictionaries, and I was amazed that there were so many words for so many different things. I understood that language is complex and that there were a lot of words I didn't know, but that dictionary made me want to find and learn as many as I could.
