A while ago, I downloaded the video for the Spice Girls' "Say You'll Be There" and loaded it onto my Zune, since I'm having this sudden late '90s nostalgia (but then again, when am I not weirdly nostalgic for the late '90s). And I watched it the other night and all I could think was This video makes no sense. I get that they're like, superheroes or whatever, but why are these hapless dudes driving out into the middle of the desert just to be tied up by women who are throwing beams of light at them?
And then I realized that I was reading way too much into this, and thought, Okay, it's ridiculous, but I still kind of love this video. I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I was eleven, and incidentally, the Spice Girls kind of helped me realize that we had MTV when we had cable. The only music video channels that we could get through regular channel surfing were BET and VH1, and one day I was trying to press 31 (which was what VH1 was on cable then), and instead I pressed 33, and as soon as I saw the MTV logo, I was like, "WOW! WE HAVE THIS?!" To this day I don't know why it was like that.
I keep having dreams about Six Flags. Clearly, I need to go.
