Once a week, I swear that I get asked the same question by customers:
"So, is everything 50% off?"
In the shoe department at the store I work at, any of the shoes that end in 88 cents instead of 99 cents are 50% off of the price shown on the label. So if the shoe is $59.88, it's going to be about $30 plus tax. All of the shoes that are 50% off are marked with a yellow flag label on the display that says "CLEARANCE 50% OFF OF PRICE". We have to mark the boxes of the clearance shoe with yellow and white stickers with the price on them so that we (and the customers, presumably) will know that these boxes hold the half price shoes.
And yet, at least once a week, someone comes in and asks me (or one of my coworkers) if everything in the department is 50% off. They do that because they don't take the five seconds to read the signs, I'm convinced. Because if everything in our department was half off, we would be ransacked.
And tonight, we closed early for a Saturday (at seven instead of nine), and I swear, there was a guy there looking for socks for ten minutes after the other customers had left. And they all left at, uh, 7:10 or so.
Anyway.

austen gave me: Mariah Carey, Lost, YA literature, Pirates of the Caribbean, and sneakers.
And so I talk about those things in reverse order.
sneakers: my preferred choice of footwear. I have an unholy amount of sneakers. Working at a sporting goods store has kind of made it worse. My mom swears that I am the only woman she knows who prefers them over other shoes. I tend to favor Reeboks over other brands right now, but I also like Vans and for a few years I wore only Adidas.
Pirates of the Caribbean: I didn't get into the movies until the first one came out on DVD. I think I refused to see it at first because A.) I thought it would suck because it was based on a ride (see: The Haunted Mansion) and B.) I had this irrational hate-on for Orlando Bloom at the time and I was all, BOO HISS at any movie he was in. But I rented it, and found myself liking it a lot. I feel weird for enjoying the sequels as much as I do, and I like Dead Man's Chest the most out of the trilogy.
YA literature: Because it's cheaper than adult books, (some) of it's extremely well-written, and nearly everything I write that's a serious novel attempt so far could be classified as such if I ever get it published (but that's just because I still feel like an overgrown high schooler instead of an adult).
Lost: Before Lost, I wouldn't have said that I was really into "genre" (sci-fi/fantasy) shows, even though I was way into The Secret World of Alex Mack when I was a kid. I also almost didn't watch it, but once I heard about the premise (people crashing on a desert island and surviving), I was hooked, because I love stories like that. I didn't expect to get hooked. And now, all I know is that whenever the series (SOB) finale airs, I'm probably going to be a crying, shaking mess.
Mariah Carey: She's been one of my favorite singers since I was about ten years old, whenever Daydream came out and you couldn't go anywhere without hearing "Fantasy", "One Sweet Day", or "Always Be My Baby" at least once. When I finally got to see Mariah live for the first time (during my senior year of high school), I kind of teared up because I was actually seeing her live and in person (and that's the only time that's ever happened--I was never the type of boy band fan who spent half the concert with a glazed teary look, I was too busy shrieking incomprehensibly--and I kind of feel vaguely insane fan about that, but at least I don't have a shrine or something built to Mimi in my closet, right?).
