The amazing
austen gave me the prompt: An annual pajama party held in the high school cafeteria turns deadly. Who will step up to solve the first murder as more begin to unfold? And this is the result of what I came up with:

the title: AP Forensics
the genre: drama/mystery
the synopsis: Pinegrove Academy is unquestionably one of the best schools in Washington, DC suburb of Canfield, Virginia. No one would have ever suspected that it would be the scene of a murder. During its annual Fall Lock-In a popular student is stabbed right before the start of one of the many games scheduled during the night and later dies from his wounds. Devastated by the loss, the dearly departed's best friends and stepsister come together and attempt to make sense of it all, only to find themselves trying to find a pattern in the sudden spurt of other murders that begin to hit the Pinegrove student body. Think Veronica Mars plus a touch of Brick (minus the hard-boiled detective talk).
the theme: "Playground Love", Air
the miscellaneous: Running time, one hour; two seasons with thirteen episodes each; rated TV-14.
the principal cast:
Emma Stone as Kelli Abrams

Originally an only child, Kelli found herself with a stepbrother at six. Although Austin was a year older than she was, they became inseparable and remained closer than most blood siblings are. She was with Kyle on the scavenger hunt at the Lock-In and was one of the last people to see Austin alive. Fascinated by mysteries as a child, she notices a theme in the killings and points this out to Kyle, and the two of them begin to investigate in earnest, although their methods are quite amateur. Her determination in attempting to figure out who's responsible for the murders is seen to be her way of coping with her brother's death—or so says her psychologist. To Kelli, it's all about getting justice.
Ed Westwick as Kyle Kessler

For as long as he could remember, Kyle has lived five houses down and across the street from the Abrams-Lockhart house, and for as long as he could remember, Austin had always been there for him—until now, that is. Kyle was the last person to see Austin fully alive, as he had left the cafeteria to go and fetch supplies from Mr. Christman's classroom. An hour later, his best friend fell into Kyle's arms, bleeding from stab wounds. Once outgoing and a star runner for Pinegrove's cross country team, most of the joy seems to have vanished from Kyle's life. Like Kelli, he sees finding the murderer to be a way to somehow obtain closure. (NOTE: Kelli and Kyle have always at least been fairly fond of each other and have, at varying points, had crushes on each other.)
Kat Dennings as Spencer Markham

The head photographer of the school yearbook, Spencer is hardly ever without her camera. After toting it around for nearly four years she's always able to spot the best scenes to preserve for posterity. Her keen observation skills (and the fact that she dated Austin for a while and remained friendly with him and Kelli after) made her a much-needed asset to Kyle and Kelli's investigation. While she's more than willing to help, she also serves as a voice of reason whenever they get too overzealous in their sleuthing.
Tyler James Williams as Ryan Morris

As one of the sophomores on the cross country team, Ryan never really got close to Austin, but since his death he's become more and more of a friend to Kyle. Like Kyle pre-Austin's death, Ryan's a pretty serious runner and known for being friendly and easy to get along with. He gets somewhat involved in the investigations when he becomes the one to discover the second murdered student in the boys' locker room after practice.
Alex Pettyfer as Maxwell Vaughn

It would be, well, cliché to assume that Max is the kind of stereotypical popular guy you'd see in any crappy show... except, well, he kind of is. He's the one who throws the parties, the one who does absolutely abhorrent things (like harassing girls and being an ass to underclassmen), and, because of Austin's death, he's been promoted to being captain of the cross country team. He once dated Kelli, who broke up with him because she caught him sneaking around with Lacey. Since then they haven't been on the best of terms, and he seems to be the least sympathetic about Austin's death and her ongoing quest to make sense of it. Kyle has never been one of Max's biggest fans and in the back of his mind wonders if somehow Max is involved in the murders.
Evangeline Lilly as Brooke Aldrin

In her fourth year of teaching AP biology at Pinegrove (and her second after her fiancé—the man who she moved to Virginia with—left her, citing cold feet), Brooke has managed to become one of the favorite teachers of the small student body. She was the one who made the 911 call the night of the lock-in and since that night she's kept a concerned watch over Kyle and Kelli, both former students of hers. Optimistic and usually upbeat, once the deaths begin to stack up she starts to grow suspicious all on her own and often admits her concerns to Noah.
Lee Pace as Noah Christman

A member of Pinegrove's Class of 1996, Noah left Canfield for New York only to return to settle some family business after his father died from lung cancer. He's well-traveled and has a fondness for medical dramas and Alfred Hitchcock's movies. As the advisor to the student council, he was very familiar with Austin and trusted him enough to give him the key to his classroom to get the prizes that would be handed out during the night of the lock-in. He's quite friendly with Brooke, and while the students sometimes speculate that there may be something between the two of them, there isn't. (At least, not yet.)
Anton Yelchin as Austin Lockhart

Life could not have been better for Austin at the beginning of his senior year. He was well-respected and liked by his classmates and the teachers, was looking into buying a 1967 Mustang Shelby to fix up with his stepfather, was working on college applications, and was the captain of the cross country team and student council vice-president. Brutally stabbed while running an errand at the lock-in, his death rocks the Pinegrove community and the town of Canfield at large. After the pilot, he's mostly seen in flashbacks and occasionally he makes an appearance in the daydreams or thoughts of his stepsister or best friends.
Freema Agyeman as Lauren Jacobs

Barely three years out of school, Lauren is Pinegrove's student psychologist, who has seen a spike in the number of students in her office this year. Kelli has a standing weekly appointment with her every Wednesday afternoon. While she is friendly and supportive, she tries to sway Kelli away from seeking vengeance on her own with little to no result.
the recurring characters:
Chris Colfer as Roy Hamilton

One of the newer photographers for The Courier, Pinegrove's student newspaper. Roy has his heart set on becoming head photographer when he is a senior and all but stalks Spencer, hoping that somehow he will absorb some of her awesomeness.
Taylor Momsen as Maggie Westing

Briefly dated Austin when she was a freshman and he was a sophomore. Now a junior and a member of the girls' cross country team, Maggie sometimes checks in on Kyle and becomes the only person outside of his inner circle that he mentions the investigations to.
Keke Palmer as Alicia Schofield

Ryan's on-again, off-again girlfriend. Alicia plays volleyball and unknowingly becomes one of the last people to see the second student to be murdered alive as they wait for their parents to pick them up after practice one night.
Cassie Steele as Lacey Alvarez

The girl who broke up Max and Kelli. A dedicated member of the Drama Club, Lacey is well-known for overexaggerating everything and being a massive drama queen. Naturally, Kelli doesn't like her very much but (spoiler alert!) in episode five she becomes the first student to survive an attempted murder.
Dakota Fanning as Daisy Fleming

Generally seen in the backgrounds of the first episodes, Daisy is the daughter of two of Canfield's most brazenly outspoken citizens, which hasn't done wonders to her popularity. Tired of being called "the hippie", she joins the cheerleading squad in the second episode and is good friends with Ryan and Alicia.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Jackson Warner

The principal of Pinegrove Academy. Once known for being carefree and permissive as far as the student body was concerned, Jack has started to set a battery of new rules and regulations up as more students die on his watch. While the parents are more than willing to accept the reforms he's made, the students are growing increasingly more and more dissatisfied with him. But it's not like they can do anything about it, can they?
Gina Torres as Fiona Bennett

The vice principal. Prone to looking the other way whenever Spencer sneaks out of class, Fiona has become the good cop to Jack's bad cop. More than anything, she's the one handling the discipline problems that don't require visits to Dr. Jacobs, and she's frequently seen chastising Max for his latest misdoing.
