Quick notes:

- I've made an icon/wallpaper post at [livejournal.com profile] brandnew_soul. Check it out, if you're so inclined.
- Lost last night! WASN'T [SPOILER] AS A [SPOILER] JUST [SPOILER] [SPOILER]?! Also: NEXT WEEK IS A RICHARD EPISODE. OMG. I can't even lie, whenever they ran that preview I was bouncing up and down and squealing like a hyperactive twelve year old. Thank God only Pepper witnessed this.
- I am so, so glad that this guy is of legal age, because otherwise I would feel like a major perv crushing on him. But at the same time: omg he was born in 1990.
- This poster for the as-yet unproduced Captain America movie makes me want the movie SO MUCH.

Day Two of 30 Days of Meme: Your Favorite Movie.

My movie-going life prior to being able to drive kind of sucked, as exhibited by my ticket stub collection (which reminds me, one day I will get back into working on [livejournal.com profile] ticketboothed). I was always at the mercy of my parents or my brother most of the time, and because of this if there was a movie I specifically wanted to see, I often had to wait until it came out on VHS before I could actually see it. The exception, of course, was if I could go with a friend, but during the summer of 2001 (when Moulin Rouge was released), I was sort of low in the friend department. I'd just moved to Texas the year before and while I was friendly with some of the girls who lived in my neighborhood and went to school with me, they weren't my friends, per se.

That July, my family made our then-biannual treks back to North Carolina to visit family, and I got to see my then best friend Amanda. We had both been obsessing over the ads for the movie and decided that we just had to see it (it was down to that and Pearl Harbor, come to think of it). There was one problem: the theater that we ended up at wasn't showing it. Instead we caught Tomb Raider.

I finally saw Moulin Rouge in February 2002, when I was in my super-emo woeful stage (that is unfortunately captured in some of the earlier entries in this journal). I went around obsessing over it for a few months after, bought the soundtrack and the VHS that year with Christmas money, and had a replica of the movie poster taped on my bedroom door until it fell off and got ripped. I think I love this movie for all the reasons that some people dislike it: it's over-the-top and the first half hour is this massive frenzy of high energy and color. But I also like that it's kind of a microcosm of some of my favorite fictional elements. It has comedy ("Nothing funny, I just like talent!", the entire scene in the elephant when Christian is attempting to sell the script to Satine who is unaware that he's not the Duke), drama, romance, and it's a musical, for crying out loud. It's a beautiful film to look at and it makes you care. As I said about my favorite song yesterday, there's other movies that I've enjoyed or meant something to me, but this is the one that constantly makes me happy.

I am loving all the Richard-love all over the internet! People were FREAKING OUT at ONTD last night. :D I can't wait either; he's fabulous and I bet his story's going to be insane & amazing.

Who IS Alex Pettyfer?! I keep hearing about him! I have this thing where I think anyone born in or after 1990 is insanely, impossibly young and will never, ever be a grown-up, which is stupid because I was born in 1988. O___o But everyone's allowed a jailbait-or-close-to crush; mine is Logan Lerman. ;)

Love the MR poster! I didn't like it when I first saw it because it was just overwhelming, and then I grew to LOVE it, and now I just regular old like it. It's the last performance of Nicole Kidman's that I loved, though. :P Sadly. Well, I liked The Others, but that was the same year. The music will always be amazing, though. "Come What May" is the most romantic song ever. <333

I am so excited that everyone's excited about Richard!

All I really know about Alex Pettyfer is that he was in some movie with Emma Roberts (and someone on ONTD said that he dumped her or something) and that he's going to be in the movie version of this book called Beastly. I have the same issue with anyone born after '89, even though five years isn't really much of a difference, you know?
