Dear Yuletide Writer,
Hey there. I hope you're enthusiastic to excited about writing something for me!
A quick overview: I'm brandnewsoul on AO3, and you can also check me out on Tumblr at viewparadise. Bookmarks can kind of give you an idea of what I'm interested in reading, and the Tumblr is to, IDK, give you an idea of what piques my interest/hopefully link you to some fun stuff to look at.
As far as things that I enjoy in stories: pining that leads to love, banter, that moment when Character A really Sees Character B, rivals to lovers, epistolary works, teamwork making the dream work, angst that leads to a happy ending, silliness, smarts and snark. I'm not into character death, noncon, or Dead Dove situations.
So, here's what I'm wishing for:
American Girl: Samantha
Getting new Samantha lore was not on my 2025 Bingo card, but well. The American Girl of the Year this year is Raquel, who is Samantha's great-granddaughter. Apparently, Samantha grew up to form her own school! I'd love to see how she came to that idea, and how the people in her life (Nellie, Gard, and Cornelia especially) helped her along her journey.
Sinners
I spent so much time during the spring going over this movie in my head. I especially thought about the effect that the night detailed in the movie would have had on the community in Clarksdale. I like the idea of, all these years later, there being a kind of legend about the night that all the people disappeared and how Sammie Moore managed to be the only survivor. Some kind of podcast transcript about people trying to dig in/figure it out while being both wildly incorrect and getting very close to figuring out the truth, perhaps after hearing from the Choctaw people?
Salute Your Shorts
One of my favorite TV shows from childhood. (My first celebrity crush was on Danny Cooksey) I'd like to see something with Budnick somehow returning to Camp Anawana. What would he be like as a counselor? Or, what if years later, he becomes the camp director? To make it interesting, him possibly getting mentored by Ug, or being co-counselors (and maybe possible romantic partner) with Dina or Pinsky. I'm just interested in how camp might've affected him, since he seems to have come from a kind of troubled background.
Roman Holiday
Ages ago, I saw this post with the idea of Roman Holiday as a space opera, and I'm a little obsessed with it. It would be so interesting! I also really like the idea of a modern AU. How would Princess Ann's adventure look different with social media? Are Joe and Irving working for an online magazine and trying to get a big scoop? Seeing it done via social media posts or as a transcript for a YouTube video could be interesting.
The Sting
Just watched this for the first time this year, and was instantly charmed. Well-dressed gentlemen, a scam, and longing looks? Yes, please! I'd like to see Henry and Johnny doing another job, perhaps on a train, and the forced proximity... forcing proximity. I want them to huddle for warmth. I want there to be one bed. I also want them to maybe have a would-be femme fatale almost take one of them down, only for her to be like, "You know what, I'd prefer to watch whatever it is you've got going on with your little friend." Something as fun as the movie felt!
Thanks again, and happy Yuletide!
